TeamKC Scouting Report | Heaven is a Place on Earth...

by Addie Linn | Sep 13, 2018

Ooh, Heaven is a place on Earth...
The 80’s pop hit rings true. Heaven is a place on Earth and it’s located in the Berkley Riverfront Park. Bar K is a dog park that doubles as a bar/restaurant/coffeehouse/grooming facility/event space/hangout … like we said, heaven. This pup-friendly development serves as a canine-centric escape from the hustle and bustle of your dog-less work days. Check out the social calendar to see what’s going on or book your next happy hour in their private meeting rooms. Leash up your hound and go get your fix of brews and Beagles.

After you embarrass yourself tripping while texting...
Just shake it off. Milk shake it off. At Shake Shack. Yes, the renowned, NYC-based fast food burger chain has made its way to the Midwest, specifically to the Country Club Plaza. Stop by the shack for a mid-shopping day break complete with fries, lemonade and frozen custard. Oh and FYI - the general consensus is that after all that walking and carrying of shopping bags – calories don’t count.

What to say after receiving the best gift ever…
OMG this is like, the coolest thing ever. Almost as cool as Open Spaces – the immersive arts experience that’s turning our city into a giant art gallery - for 62 days. With epic visual and performing art displays popping up all over, be sure to download the app for crucial info such as dates, times and locations. You can also find more information on “The Weekend,” a three-day music event with acts like The Roots and KC native, Janelle Monáe. Speaking of all things art, don’t forget to check out the lineup for the annual Plaza Art Fair

When the end of summer is in sight…
Instead of whining try wine-ing. With cooler weather approaching, the days start getting shorter but the work day stays the same. What gives? Offset the oncoming winter blues with a break at some of KC’s hippest wine spots. KC Wine Co. in Olathe has a handful of fall-themed events this season including an Apple Cider Fest and a Pumpkin Spice Party. Explore wines from around the world at Wines by Jennifer in Parkville or kick back at one of KC’s favorite wine spots like Louie’s Wine Dive or Tannin Wine Bar and Kitchen. Or maybe a night in is what you’re craving. If so, swing by KC Wineworks to grab a bottle of local vino and cozy up at home. In whatever way, shape or form - winos unite.

The next big thing…
When the boss wants forward thinking - hit ‘em with this article from ERE. As a talent acquisition pro, you know that AI and machine learning is the next big thing. But, building an algorithm that will set your company up for success is harder than it may seem. Although technology will ease the process and improve your strategy overall, unconscious bias (there’s that buzzword again) isn’t eliminated completely when you move to an automated system. Recruitment consultant, Bas van de Haterd, breaks down the steps you should take to properly build a recruiting system for the future.
