TeamKC Scouting Report | They’re creepy and they’re kooky...

by Addie Linn | Oct 23, 2019

They’re creepy and they’re kooky...
How to describe your third-cousin that only posts taxidermy on their Insta. And also - KC’s Halloween themed bars popping up all over town. Check out Apparition, a “spookeasy” in a lofted space above the Screenland Armour Theatre in North KC. Or, make a reservation for the Victorian era pop up, Something Wicked, at Julep in Westport. All month long, both bars will be serving up ghoulish libations that are sure to have you feeling mysterious and spooky.

Bang a gong, get it on…
What to do on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Specifically, at the Steps of Faith Foundation’s third annual Thundergong! fundraiser. The variety show is hosted by SNL alum Jason Sudeikis with guest appearances by Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Sam Richardson, Wynonna Judd and more surprise guests to be announced. It’s undoubtedly the most entertaining way to give back to your community. And a quick shameless plug - check out our interview with Steps of Faith founder, Billy Brimblecom, on the latest episode of The TeamKC Podcast

What to say when you’re having a jolly good time…
The “craic” is good. What?!? No joke. It’s pronounced “crack” and has a completely different meaning in Ireland than it does in the U.S. Although not clearly defined, synonyms for the word include camaraderie, jollity and fellowship. You get the idea. Why does it matter? It also happens to be the namesake of the newest pub in Parkville, The Craic on Main. A variety of beers, a rotating menu and live music make for a sweet new hangout.

When the presentation flops...
Walk it off. And maybe, in the future, you’ll walk it off along the region’s first-ever “greenline.” A concept proposed by regional developer, Vince Bryant, which entails building a 10-mile recreational loop around the downtown area for bikers and hikers alike. The project would make use of a forgotten access road along the KC terminal railway to connect KC’s urban neighborhoods like never before. At this point the idea is just that, an idea, but we’re crossing our fingers for this one!

I don’t care, you decide…
We’ve all heard it before. The battle cry of the indecisive army. How about Mediterranean? I’m not in the mood for it. But you said I could decide! STOP. Downtown Overland Park is taking the wishy-washy head-on with a brand new food hall at 80th and Marty. Set to open later this fall, Strang Hall will feature a menu of choices from a variety of area chefs. All part of larger development known as Edison District
